Dated: May 23 2021
In yet another reason to relocate to the Lowcountry, Beaufort SC has made the Forbes list as one of the top places in the entire U.S. to retire in 2021. In its new publication, the popular magazine has named Beaufort on its short list of 24 locations across the country.
In the article, Forbes said our average home price is at [an affordable] $253,000, which stands at a whopping 23% below the national average with a cost of living at 6% below national average.
Forbes also listed the pros of choosing Beaufort SC as your place to spend your retirement.
They include good air quality, a comfortable climate, adequate doctors per capita and no state estate tax and no state income tax on Social Security or first $15,000 of other retirement income.
Forbes also came to the conclusion that Beaufort is home to a good economy, and possesses only a moderate FEMA natural hazards risk.
Beaufort was in good company on the Forbes list, which, among others, included Asheville, NC, Clearwater, FL, Savannah, GA, College Station , TX, and Pittsburgh, PA.
Forbes also said that the methodology on how they came up with the list included comparing data on nearly 800 places, with populations over 10,000 in all 50 states, including money (income), average home prices and overall cost of living when compared to the national average; and state taxes, including special income tax exemptions for Social Security and other retirement income as well as state estate/inheritance taxes.
Forbes also took into consideration the local economy, since many retirees look for part-time work and down the road might want to sell their home and relocate again.
Since living well is just as important as living affordably, Forbes looked at a number of quality of life indicators, including the rate of violent crime, physicians per capita and air quality.
If you like the idea of living in what's considered one of the best places in the U.S. to live...then you might just need to relocate to Beaufort SC.
