Spring in Beaufort means lots of things. Arriving earlier than most of the U.S., spring means warmer weather, daffodils, and azaleas in bloom, and the Lowcountry becomes green again.

It also means it’s time for our local strawberry season; a season that you’ll learn to look forward to each and every year.

Local strawberries are ready and it’s time to go and enjoy a taste of the spring at our local U-Pick farms on St. Helena Island.

There’s nothing quite like going for a drive down Highway 21 and pulling up to one of our local farms on the side of the highway. The kids and the grandkids will have the time of their lives.

The family-owned farms sell their strawberries and lets you go and pick them yourselves.

Springtime strawberry picking is a rite of passage for many Beaufortonians of all ages, both natives and transplants, who just can’t wait to grab a bucket and venture out into the fields in search of the perfect strawberry.

It’s a springtime favorite in these parts.

If you’re here already, don’t miss out. Barefoot Farms is open for picking. They're located at 939 Sea Island Parkway on St. Helena Island, and Dempsey Farms U Pick should be opening by April 2nd. Dempsey's is located at 1576 Sea Island Parkway on St. Helena Island.
